Customer Review: Nice guitar for the money, well setup, decent workmanship
I have quite a few acoustic guitars, and this one was purchased as a "camp" guitar - one that wouldn't break the bank to replace if destroyed or stolen. For that purpose I'm quite happy with it. The tone is a bit thin, but that comes mostly from the smaller "folk" or concert size - which is much more comfortable to hold and play. Alvarez makes some very nice guitars - I've had various ones since '73 - and although the appointments on this one are simple (inlays, dots, headstock emblem, binding, bwb purfling, etc.) it is not rough-made and is pleasant to the eye. The fingerboard is rosewood, as is the bridge. Saddle, nut, and pins are all plastic and I'm going to replace the saddle with bone (~$25) which will richen the tone and lengthen the sustain. This would be a very good guitar for a new player, smaller player, or like me one who wants the smaller size for packing but still bigger than the 3/4 sized (Taylor Baby - which I have and like; Martin, etc.) which have correspondingly smaller fingerboards. Recommended.
